Dear Sysop :
This is the 17th release of The Verify Door to the public. Please report
any problems or suggestions to Jim Lockhart (The author) at:
Page Three BBS
Node 1: 407-327-8421 38.4k baud HST
Node 2: 407-327-4524 12/2400 baud MNP
PC-Pursuit: FLORL
>>> NOTE: Always read the WHATS.NEW file! You might be missing out on <<<
>>> some newly added features if you miss it!!! <<<
If you are running an HST modem, be SURE you set the parameter &S0 and
write it to your NRAM using the &W command. This sets the DSR override
to the factory default.
ALSO, if you are running TVD on a USR HST or a TELEBIT modem, please
check your S38 register. It should be set to S38=0 or somewhere between
0 and 4 seconds.
QUICK SETUP:
>>>NOTE: If you are upgrading from v1.15 , v1.17, v1.18 or v1.19, please
stop now and follow the directions contained in UPGRADE.DOC.
If you are upgrading from v1.23, TCBVD124.EXE is a drop in replacement
for TCBVD123.EXE. No other chages (except your batch file) are needed.
If you are upgrading from v1.20, v1.21, or v1.22, TCBVD124.EXE is
a drop-in replacement for TCBVD121.EXE, TCBVD122.EXE and TCBVD123.EXE,
however you must at least update your TVD config file by running SETUP24
and save the changes.
If you are upgrading from a version previous to v1.15, back up your
TCBVVER file and read on:
1. De-archive the new TVD files into any directory on your hard drive
and log into that directory. (Ideally you would want to de-archive
the door files to the directory from which you wish to run the door.)
2. Run INSTALL.BAT or SETUP23
You might consider having a copy of the docs handy as there isn't
much on line help within the setup program.
3. Run option #1 first to properly install the TVD files.
4. Now run option #2 and make changes to any item that might be needed.
Pay special attention to any line in the config that contains a path
or user security level, especially the path to the log file you
intend to have the door use/create.
5. Save the changes when you're happy with the configuration.
6. Copy the file VERIFY to your \PCB directory. (You can re-name this
file to whatever filename suits you)
7. Edit VERIFY (or whatever you re-named it to) to tailor it to your system.
8. Set up an entry for VERIFY (or whatever you named it) in PCBSETUP.
9. Test the door in local mode by logging in locally as a new user......
TVD will do everything except actually dial out if you log in
in local mode.
WHAT TO DO IF TVD REPORTS AN ERROR
Most errors during initial setup and testing and are caused by TVD not
being able to find one or more of the files specified in the TCBV.CNF file.
Check to be SURE that all path names in TCBV.CNF are fully correct (check
the docs if you're not sure what format is being called for).
WHAT TO DO IF YOU STILL CAN'T MAKE IT RUN!
Please note any error codes reported if an error occurs. (Error codes are
written to ERROR.LOG) Telling what the error code(s) is (are) will make it
a lot easier for me to help you quickly find the problem should one occur.
After you have all the information gathered, then call Page Three BBS and
leave a [C]omment to the sysop about the exact nature of the problem you are
having with TVD including any error codes listed in ERROR.LOG and I'll be
glad to get you up and running.
* Some sysops call me and ask for all kinds of help in getting
* TVD set up and running, then they don't register the door.
* I think that's sorta rude to do so if you call me for help, please
* have the courtesy to register your copy of TVD after the 30 day
* evaluation period if you are satisfied with the way it runs on your system.
If the door doesn't seem to want to call your users back, check the log file
in the door or your caller log and see if there are some NO DIALTONE messages.
If so, you may need to change your modems X parameter to X3 so that the modem
does not return the NO DIALTONE result code to the door.
This door does NOT appear to work well with some UARTS such as a few found
in internal modems. It has been running successfully on versions of the
Intel 16550, 16450, 16451, 16551, 8250, 8250a and 8250b UARTs and most internal
modems mapped to the same addresses as com1-8 on the AT bus.
TVD has been found to run great on USR, Telebit, Everex, Cardinal, Hayes,
Ven-Tel, Hisland and other hayes-compatible modems.
If you like the door and want me to keep writing future versions, please
register your copy of TVD as mentioned in the documentation.
